Tuesday, February 11th, 2014 was a red-letter day for the South Bruce Tourism Association!

At the request of South Bruce Municipality Mayor William Goetz, the association’s monthly meeting slated for February 4th was delayed one week to coincide with the regular council meeting.

With many of the members present in Council Chambers, Mayor Goetz announced that South Bruce Tourism Association has been awarded an Ontario Heritage Trust Certificate of Achievement in appreciation of it’s volunteer work to identify, preserve, protect and promote Ontario’s rich heritage! This award is part of the 2013 Heritage Community Recognition Program.

The Ontario Heritage Trust is a non-profit agency of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture, responsible for protecting, preserving and promoting the built, natural and cultural heritage of Canada’s most populous province. It was initially known as the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board in the 1950s. In 1968, the Sites Board was incorporated into the Ontario Heritage Foundation by the Progressive Conservative government of John Robarts. Its name was changed to Ontario Heritage Trust in 2005 by an amendment to the Ontario Heritage Act. The Trust’s current chairman is Dr. Thomas Symons.

The South Bruce Tourism Association was nominated for the 2013 Heritage Community Recognition Award by Mayor Goetz and South Bruce Municipal Council for the many years of exemplary service promoting local tourist activities and events, including the popular South Bruce Vintage Tractor Tour held annually on Father’s Day (now in its 15th year!) and the South Bruce Gardens and Landscaping Tour.
